Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Under the direction of the supervisor, aid in the development of policies and procedures, budgets, and monitoring of compliance, i.e. hospital and laboratory policies and regulatory agencies’ such as CAP, AABB, and TJC. Helps to ensure quality and quantity of standards, relating to the delivery of laboratory services, are achieved through direction and monitoring of staff activities. Responsible for most effective and efficient use of department resources. 

Employment Qualifications

Requires advance level of knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, as well as hematology, serology, microbiology, blood banking, and virology at a level generally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology which includes successful completion of a supervised clinical internship.

Requires a comprehensive understanding of all policies, procedures, systems and equipment used within the assigned laboratory department, as well as a high level of technical and professional proficiency in medical technology at a level generally acquired during 3 to 5 years of progressively more responsible experience.

Requires an analytical ability necessary to aid in the development of department policies and procedures to increase department's effectiveness and efficiency and to resolve technical problems requiring a professional level of knowledge.

Requires interpersonal skills necessary to direct and assign work to department staff, explain Hospital and department policies and procedures, and communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals, patients and the public.
