I. Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The primary responsibilities of this position are to provide daily operational support to the Environmental Services Director, and coach staff to ensure a clean, sanitary, attractive and safe environment for hospital departments, patient and public areas.

II. Employment Qualifications

1. Knowledge generally acquired through completion of a college Associates Degree and Business Management Fundamentals Program.

2. Previous work experience managing environmental services operations.

3. Work requires experience preparing reports, keeping records, and the ability to deal with people effectively.

4. Work requires experience preparing reports, planning, and assessing departmental policies, procedures, and practices, and using interpersonal skills to effectively supervise staff.

III. Essential Job Functions

1. Plans, manages, disciplines, and evaluates work performance of the environmental services staff in conjunction with the department director.  Supervises the off-shift leaders.

2. Conducts performance evaluations of employees and coaches, counsels and mentors them in areas of necessary improvement. Fully responsible for all aspects of all departments in the absence of the Director.

3. System manager of Connect Care, including updating database files, monitoring system progressions during shifts, and alerting team leaders of potential problems.  Also includes trouble shooting system problems and answering questions from system users, providing monthly reports and research results to Leaders, which highlight employees’ performance and provides documentation for complaints.

4. Makes rounds to assess effectiveness of the Environmental Services program and to ensure instructions are followed and safety rules are observed. Responsible for conducting regular staff meetings and providing clear and accurate instructions to EVS leaders and staff.

5. Supervises KRONOS edits and payroll questions or problems. Approves work schedules and daily staffing assignments for the Office Coordinator, Team Leaders and Environmental Service Aides.

6. Works closely with the Safety Officer and Infection Prevention personnel to ensure safety and sanitation policies are current and enforced in conjunction with The Joint Commission environment of care standards.

7. Evaluates needs of other departments as they relate to floor maintenance, cyclical cleaning, specific area requests and special projects. Performs housekeeping duties at times of peak demand and/or emergency situations.

8. Contributes and participates in initiatives designed to positively impact organizational success targets for patient satisfaction.

9. Communicates all hospital-related issues honestly, professionally and timely, to team leaders, resource coordinator, and/or departmental manager.

10. Maintains confidentiality as defined by HIPAA and other hospital policy.

11.Participates in continuing education through seminars, participation in national associations and reading publications to stay abreast of cutting-edge issues.

12. Functions with an awareness and application of safety issues as identified by the organization
