Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Under general supervision and according to established procedures, policies, established deadlines and detailed instructions, provide response to customer inquiries, support end-users, monitor and resolve technical problems, and ensure timely resolutions.  Must also possess strong organizational, follow-up, and detail-oriented communication skills, as well as be able to work independently and participate in a team environment.  Perform computer operations tasks based on detailed documentation, analyze and solve problems, monitor a broad base of applications and interfaces, and apply updates to software while being proactive in resolving operational issues across a multi-site enterprise.

Employment Qualifications

  • Completion of High School or GED and two of years of previous experience in a data center computer operations environment.

  • Ability to successfully complete computer operations tasks and follow written procedures.  Tasks may include system monitoring, maintaining logs, performing backups, etc.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.  Ability to interact positively and in a reassuring manner with customers via the telephone.  Ability to write clear operating procedures and provide training where appropriate.

  • Prior experience in retrieving and sorting reports, line printer operation and report distribution in a multi-facility production environment.

  • Knowledge of networks, which includes network security, understanding network status, workstation connectivity and WAN/MAN/VPN topology.

  • Position may require specific knowledge of hardware operations such as IBM AS/400, Wintel Fileservers, IBM RS6000.

  • Position may require specific operational knowledge of Windows Server Operating System and IBM/AIX O/S.

  • Position may require specific knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites, Windows 10 operating systems and the Internet is a must.

  • Advanced knowledge of Information Systems and its mission in a computerized electronic enterprise acquired through college or Technical training or 2-5 plus years in an Information Systems environment.

  • Excellent Data Entry and Advanced keyboarding skills.

Essential Job Functions

  • Retrieve, print, label and distribute reports to designated list of customers daily.  Monitor and download reports as required on a daily basis.  Retrieve and send reports, via the network and report distribution and archive software, to designated file servers ensuring directory path and filename is correct.

  • Interact with vendors and internal support personnel in troubleshooting and solving problems and issues in a timely and accurate manner, and in documenting such problems and resolutions in the trouble-ticketing system (Heat),

  • Perform operational tasks on various computerized systems such as tape backups, file transfers (locally or via modem or network connection), application and system status monitoring, network topology message interpretation and reaction, initiation of OBF batch processing or programmed jobs and general system awareness.

  • Work from daily scheduled task list and monitor sheets to ensure that proper tasks are accomplished.  Provide accurate turnover information from one shift to another.

  • Assist with Level I help desk coverage which entails answering telephone calls from customers who have problems associated with computerized systems, using established procedures and experience to determine the nature of the problem, solving the problem when possible, documenting the problem via Heat, and escalating the problem as appropriate and providing status feedback to customer as required.

  • Maintain professional demeanor and telephone etiquette in dealing with internal and external customers.  Maintain a positive attitude in a service-oriented environment.

  • Work with the following computer applications:  Microsoft Office 365 Professional, Outlook Exchange and other PC or server based office automation software applications as required.

  • Perform assigned project work associated with various computer applications or systems as assigned by management.

  • Adhere to established department/hospital policies, procedures, directives, confidentiality agreements, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards appropriate to this position.

  • Be flexible in meeting staffing requirements of a 24 by 7 operation in a hospital environment.  Utilize the Kronos application appropriately for documenting Time and Attendance.
