Articulate a vision and provide leadership and strategic planning for implementation and evaluation of the nursing program and curriculum at Southside College of Health Sciences. Create a positive, holistic, inclusive, student-centered and caring work environment.


  • Develop and implement nursing program strategic plan in consultation with appropriate stakeholder groups that aligns with principles of shared governance.
  • Provide visionary leadership and ensure the quality of the nursing program. Assess opportunities to develop new nursing program offerings at the College and implement where feasible.
  • Recruit, select, mentor, and evaluate faculty. Design, facilitate and monitor ongoing faculty development programs and plans. Conduct regular faculty meetings to promote communication and team building.
  • Ensure continuous program improvement through a regular process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to meet stated outcomes.
  • Oversee curriculum development and revision in alignment with sound educational principles and trends in professional nursing education and practice. Ensure effectiveness of the program admissions process.
  • Monitor progression, retention, graduation, licensure pass rate, and job placement data to promote student satisfaction and retention. Participate in the management and budgeting of program and college operations and resources; work with College personnel in establishing priorities in the allocation of available resources.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with state regulatory requirements and national program accreditation standards; serve as the contact for the program regarding state, professional, and accrediting groups; the community; and other external stakeholders. Document and maintain records of all activities required by external accrediting and regulatory agencies.
  • Schedule and conduct regular, purposeful program community advisory board meetings. 
  • Serve on college, health system committees as assigned. Collaborate and build relationships with other colleges, committees, boards, and community stakeholders. Promote and maintain collaborative relationships with Bon Secours Health System leadership, Bon Secours Richmond Higher Education Institutions and other agencies. Represent the program and the College in professional associations, the local community, etc.
  • Maintain current knowledge of collegiate nursing education and professional nursing practice.


Required Minimum Education: Baccalaureate and Master’s degrees in nursing required.

Licensure/Certification Required: Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia .

Minimum Years and Type of Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience as a registered nurse.Minimum of three (3) years of teaching and/or administrative experience in nursing at the college level preferred.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:At minimum, must meet the requirements for academic rank of Associate Professor .
