POSITION SUMMARY

The lead mammographer is responsible for applying sound judgment in association with professional and governmental guidelines when making decisions concerning patient and procedural modification.  She must exercise professional judgment in performance of all aspects of radiology in which they are involved.  The lead technologist will coordinate departmental work flow and oversee daily operations of the breast health center.  She will make decisions and will consult with the Director on a daily basis in order to keep them informed about the decisions made throughout the day. 

Under general supervision, supervises and enforces all established policies and procedures for the Mammography Department.  She must possess the ability to function effectively as a mammographer in addition to assigning and coordinating the activities of other technologists. 

The lead technologist will plan and schedule work for mammography ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate manning, space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties.  She is responsible for completing and distributing staff weekly/vacation/holiday schedules.

She will provide technical assistance, instruction and consultation to students and employees.   As lead, she will recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, and transfers.  The lead technologist will also assist in disciplining staff members, as appropriate, and provide positive reinforcement for all employees.

The lead technologist will be required to use independent, professional, ethical judgment and critical thinking skills while also participating in quality improvement initiatives and customer service practices. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Must be a graduate of an approved/accredited Radiologic Technology program.

EXPERIENCE:

Two years experience in a hospital setting as a registered technologist required.  Preferred:  Two years experience as a manager and/or lead technologist.

LICENSURE/REGISTRATION:

Must have successfully passed ARRT registry examination and have maintained current ARRT registration status. Must have received/applied for South Carolina state license with SCRQSA. Must possess and maintain current bi-annual CPR certification.

PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Must receive training in Connect Care Lab/Rad Module within one month from date of hire. Must pass the Connect Care Lab/Rad Module with a grade of 84 or higher.
