Health care will generate 3.2 million new wage and salary jobs between 2008 and 2018 — more than any other industry — according to the U.S. Labor Department, Bureau of Labor Statistics, largely in response to rapid growth in the elderly population. In 2008 (most recent year available), health care provided 14.3 million jobs for wage and salary workers.
As more and more Americans are attracted to health care jobs and employers exercise new ways of reaching bright, energized students, the selection and courtship process will intensify, often taking place before graduation or shortly after. In this respect, Bon Secours is a recruitment innovator.
The Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing is committed to developing the baccalaureate nurse generalist prepared to function at the entry level in acute, chronic, or community settings. The College offers a Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree which gives nursing students practical experience and direct contact with Bon Secours’ nursing leadership. Started in 1961, the College will celebrate 50 years of providing excellence in nursing education.
Bon Secours also enjoys relationships with several universities and, each year, accepts a select number of stellar graduate students to serve in either an administrative-resident or fellowship position at a Bon Secours facility or the Health Systems Office (corporate office). Students work one year to gain administrative, financial, strategic planning or legal experience, which is intended to ease their transition from classroom to workplace through intensive exposure to the management environment. It also ensures that the graduates get real-world administrative experience, thus enhancing their job prospects. Bon Secours has proudly extended employment offers to more than 90 percent of its residents and fellows at a Bon Secours facility.
