Successful BSHSI leaders respond to their own personal “call” and embody the values of Bon Secours and the Catholic healthcare ministry when addressing operational realities to produce strategic results. The Spiritual resources of the Catholic healthcare traditions, their own personal faith and spirituality, and the spirituality of their co-workers supply day-to-day meaning and the deep grounding, motivation, and resolve necessary to carry out this healthcare ministry. We call this Reflective Integration, which is depicted above in the form of a cross combining the four “clusters” or areas of leadership competency: action, focus, values, and vocation.
BSHSI Leadership Competency Set
Although BSHSI leaders bring unique gifts to their call, certain unique competencies, when combined with foundational management competencies, have been found to differentiate outstanding leadership performance in support of the BSHSI mission and CDS Philosophy and Model. These competencies are leadership competencies for all leaders across the Bon Secours Health System and are integrated with any functionally specific competencies (technical competencies) required for success in a particular job.
Foundational competencies are core behaviors expected of all leaders at BSHSI.
Foundational competencies are the fundamental behaviors that support the development of differentiating competencies. However, foundational and differentiating competencies are not intended to be sequential, rather they build off of one another.
Differentiating competencies are the behaviors that drive the achievement of extraordinary results and differentiate superior leaders at BSHSI.
Functionally specific competencies (technical competencies) are defined for a particular functional area to indicate particular skills and abilities needed to serve in that role. It is important to differentiate true functionally specific competencies and job expectations.
